November's This & That with Arielle Nissenblatt
This post was initially published on Revue, a newsletter platform run by Twitter. This and That was moved to Beehiiv in December 2022. This is a re-post, so there may be some inconsistencies and elements that didn't survive the content import.
Hi, This & That-ers!
Greetings, podcast friends. Since this newsletter is hosted on Revue (a product of Twitter), I've heard it's being closed down on January 1st(?). So, this issue will not just entertain/delight you but also ask you a very serious question: where do you want to go from here? More on that below.
If we haven't met yet, hi! I'm Arielle. I love listening to podcasts, going on walking tours, collecting license plates, and helping people get paid to work in podcasting.
~This newsletter isn't a regular thing~ I'm busy with SquadCast, EarBuds, Tink, Sounds Profitable, Podcast Taxonomy, and other projects (and a little bit of a social life), and thus, can't make this a regular thing. HOWEVER...
HOWEVER, I will pop in from time to time to share ideas, podcast recommendations, thoughts on podcasting, gripes, and ask questions of you. NOW is one of those times.
I promise to deliver valuable recommendations and advice in digestible, actionable bullet points, always.

Why am I sharing transparency stats?
It's fun!
So you can learn from my email marketing tactics
Let's get into it...
Podcast Recommendations
I always love the Pocket Casts curated lists. Evan Stern, the host of Vanishing Postcards, curated a guest list and featured a podcast called Out There. I listened to an episode called "High on Failure" and LOVED IT. It's about an ultra-runner named Jordan Wirfs-Brock who competed in a race called Infinitus. She failed. But she ran 300-something miles in less than 10 days! So did she really fail? Find out!
My ongoing podcast recommendation Twitter thread. I hit 10,000 Twitter followers in May, and when I did, I tweeted that for every like that my post got, I'd share a podcast recommendation. It's a project that will never end. But I'm having fun with it. This week, I highlighted Bone Valley, which I think you should check out.
P.S. Let's address the Twitter-sized elephant in the room. There's a lot going on over there. For now, I'm staying on the platform. But I also think that if in the past, Twitter has been overwhelming for you and you've been looking for an excuse to leave, it's ok to take this as a sign.
I just moved to Brooklyn and on a recent walk, found myself standing on the sidewalk next to the Brooklyn Public Library. I went in. Within 3.5 minutes, I had a library card. Four minutes after that, I downloaded the Libby app (free). A few days later, I'm several hours into my latest Audiobook read, London by Edward Rutherfurd. Look at me, recommending a book!
Here are some more podcasts I can't stop listening to lately:
Into It from Sam Sanders - POP CULTURE
One Year: 1942 - HISTORY
Mobituaries - HISTORY/COMEDY
WikiListen - GENERAL KNOWLEDGE
And...How To Do The Pot
Are you secretly Googling questions about weed? How to Do the Pot is here to help, with short weekly episodes that inspire you to feel confident about cannabis for health, well-being, and fun.
Hosted by Ellen Scanlon.
Podcast Maker Things
I want to make sure you know that you can submit your show to be featured on apps: Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, Castbox, and more to come.
Sounds Profitable is a newsletter and podcast about the business of podcasting. I recommend subscribing to the podcast feed (not just because I cohost one of the podcasts but) because it's an incredible way to stay informed about this industry.
Here's a podcast editing workshop I'm organizing. If you can't make it live (11/15), there'll be a replay available immediately afterward.
Apple Podcasts has live (virtual) events now! You can learn more and RSVP here.
Plugs For My Other Stuff
I'm always trying to grow my other newsletter, EarBuds Podcast Collective. It's a podcast recommendations newsletter wherein each week is curated by a different person. You can subscribe here.

Questions for You
Where do you want to go from here? I say this because this newsletter is hosted on a service that's associated with Twitter and apparently, Twitter is shutting it down. You can subscribe to my other-other newsletter (there's EarBuds and then there's this one) here. It's called Podcast Plunge. I don't update it that often, but I miiiiight.
Are you leaving Twitter entirely? Where will you go? What is the social media ideal that we should strive for?
This third issue of This and That with Arielle Nissenblatt was brought to you by me having a bunch of extra energy after engaging in a light fight with a troll on Twitter.
Happy podcasting / listening,
Arielle
P.s. I'm giving myself the freedom to write whatever I want in this newsletter and to format it however I damn well please. So next time this drops, it could look completely different. Stay tuned! Woo!
